The South African flag, adopted in 1994 after the end of apartheid, features a horizontal green, yellow, and blue band, with a black, white, and red X traversing the flag. The green represents the natural wealth of the land, yellow symbolizes the country’s rich mineral resources, and blue stands for the blue sky and the Indian Ocean. The X, known as the “V” for victory in the struggle against apartheid, incorporates the colors of the national flags of the four main racial groups: black, white, brown (coloured), and yellow (Asian).
